GOOD SPORTSMAN
MR VERRAN FAREWELLED PRESENTATION MADE ATHLETIC CLUB EVENING The committee and supporters of the Paeroa Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club assembled recently to farewell one of their most esteemed members in the person of Mr J. Verran. In proposing the toast to Mr Verran the patron of the club, Mr Edwin Edwards, spoke highly of the good) work which Mr- Verran had performed during his many years associated with the sporting- clubs in Paeroa. His Worship concluded his remark by wishing Mr Verran every success in his future position and asked all present to rise and drink a toast to his good health. The following speakers, Messrs F. Sharp, W. Parker, G. Millar, H. Verran, N. Neil, T. Sweeney, G. Ruscoe and C. Millar, all spoke of the high esteem in which the guest of the evening was held among the sporting- fraternity in the district. At this stage the president of the club Mr C. C. Webb took the opportunity of making a presentation to Mr Verran, on behalf of the members. Mr Webb thanked Mr Verran for all he had done for the club and its members. He mentioned the high standard of sportsmanship which Mr Verran
had attained in the world of sport and wished him every success in the future. In replying Mr Verran thanked the club for the gift, also the speakers, for the many kind remarks said in his favour. In concluding Mr Verran said that all the work he had done for the club had been done willingly knowing that his efforts would be o± benefit to the younger generation. During the evening Mr C. Vickerstaff rendered items on the piano aecordian. A most enjoyable evening was brought to a close with the singing of Auld Lang Syne.
