REFEREES MEET

HAURAKI PLAINS RUGBY T ELECTION OF OFFICERS ASSOCIATION BADGE SELECTED The annual meeting of the Hauraki Plains Referees Association was held in Ngatea on Wednesday, April 17, presided over by Mr I. Poland. Those present were: —Messrs' Stretton, Cole, Hinton, T. Leonard, Bailey and the secretary, J. C. Howat. A report of a satisfactory year’s work was given by the president, Mr I. Poland. The election of officers resulted: — Patron, Mr C. W. Paifitt; president, Mr W. Bailey; vice-presidents, Mr C. Hinton, Mr I. Poland: secretary, Mr J. C. Howat; referees’ examiner, Mr C. Hinton; delegate to H.P.R.F.U., Mr C. Hinton; committee, all referees; delegates to T.V.R.A., the president, secretary and Mr I. Poland; appointments committee: It was decided that the appointing of referees be made at the meetings. The secretary asked several schools to draw up designs' for an association badge but owing to the shortage of time only: a few designs had come forward. The design of Elaine Brown, of Waitakaruru, was chosen and the secretary was, instructed to write to Miss Brown complimenting her on her work and a suitable presentation will be made to her. It was decided to order one dozen badges for the forthcoming season. Referees were instructed to inspect all sprigs, at all matches and also to see that matches started on time.

The following- referees were appointed for the opening matches of the competitions on Saturday, April 27 (Home ground mentioned first) Seniors, at 2 p.m. —Maramarua V Waitakaruru, Mr Stretton'; Patetonga V Ngatea, Mr I. Poland; Miranda V Turua, Mr Soloman. Juniors, at 2 p.m.—Waitakaruru V Maramarua, Mr Cole; Ngatea V Patetonga, Mr Bailey. Thirds.—Waitakaruru V Kerepeehi, Mr C. Hinton; Turua V Ngatea, Mr Leonard. In the event of Maramarua not entering the competitions, substitute Kerepeehi. Also, Mr Stretton and Mr Bailey will change matches. The rest of the meeting was- devoted to discussion on rules and incidents at matches.
