WEAKENED BY CRABS
STOPBANK ON THE PLAINS LEAK IN THE FLOODGATE “We the undersigned wish to draw attention to the serious leak in the surrounding stopbank to the extent of about seven chains situated behind Camplbell’s farm and request the board to take immediate action to repair same and stop floodgate and. bank collapsing before the winter sets in,” stated a petition before .the March meeting of the Hauraki United Drainage Board. Those who signed' were Messrs E. B. Hill, G. H. Carey, Russell Green, F. Wilson, E. C. Harwood, G. Newsham, W. Mc'Coid, L.. LeNoel, R. J. Baker, T. H. Hudson, L. W. Mora, L. G. Candy, A. O’Carroll Snr., W. E. Hale, W. W. G. Farther, J. C. Miller and E. A. Campbell. After some discussion it was decided to leave the matter in the hands of the chairman, Mr C. K. Fox and the area members Messrs E. B. Hill and R. Green to contact .the Lands Department in an attempt to get assistance. Mr E. B. Hill explained that crabs had undermined about seven chains of the bank which was in a weak state. The floodgate was leaking badly.
