TRAFFIC OFFENCES CASES HEARD IN PAEROA USE OF PEDESTRIAN CROSSINGS 'Charged with failing to yield right of way to a pedestrian on an authorised pedestrian crowing Wdham Francis Phillips was fined £1 with costs 10s in the Paeroa Court on Monday by Messrs T. Gregson and B. (Jwilliam 'Snr., J’s.P. Traffic Inspector K. R. McD. A fine 'of & with costs 10 s was imposed upon Keith Robert Gemnd on a charge of driving a heavy motor vehicle at a speed exceeding 25 m.p. • Traffic-Inspector G. A. Fergus stated that on November 1 he had cheeked Gerrand on the (Paeroa-Waffil main highway travelling at ’39 m.p. ■ Charged with driving a heavy motoi vehicle in excess of the speed hmit allowed, 25 m.p.h., and also with * ing the vehicle when it. was so loa as to be liable to cause injury, John Charles Cotter was fined £2 with costs 10s on the first charge and 10s with costs 10‘S on the second charge. Traffic-Inspector G. A.- Fergusson stated that on November 26 at 6 p.m. • he had checked the vehicle at a speed
of 40 m.p.h. and a passenger had been standing on the running board. There ■were two other passengers in the cab of the truck.
Mr R. S. Carden who appeared for Cotter stated that his client had to pick up a tractor and some gear and the owner and' his son made the short, distance to the tractor in the cab. Cotter’s assistant rode on the running board. The truck only travelled a short distance and there was no traffic about and the light was good. A fine of £2 10s :0d with costs 10s was imposed.. 'Charged with operating a heavy motor vehicle before first having obtained a heavy traffic licence, Robert Percival : Allan Angus was fined £2 10s with costs 10s.
Traffic Inspector G. A. Fergusson said that on November -218 he stopped Angus in the Paeroa borough, driving a truck taking cream to. the factory. Angus admitted that he 'had not taken out a licence. *He had warned Angus previously to take out a licence, 'William Eldon Baden Davies, charged with driving a car in Willoughby street, Paeroa and when approaching the uncontrolled intersect tion of Arney street failed to give way to another car approaching the intersection from his right when such other car was not about to turn or was turning to its right and the driver was not about to turn or turning to his right was fined 10s with costs 10s. On a charge of driving a car which was not issued with a warrant of fitness, Davies was fined 10s and costs 10s.
Constable J. L. Brown stated that Davies was driving along Willoughby street and' was. involved in a collision with anot]
Mr R. S. Carden who appeared for Davies, said he was not a resident of Paeroa and did not know the corner was dangerous. The Paeroa Borough Council had recently marked the intersection as a dangerous corner. The warrant of fitness was not in the car which Davies had! borrowed. He had not thought to cheek up on this point.
