REPAIRS TO BRIDGE
PROPOSALS NOW APPROVED MONEY AVAILABLE HIKUTAIA-NETHERTON STREAM Proposals for the repairing of the Hikutaia stream bridge on the Hiku-taia-Netherton main highway have now been approved by the Main Highways Board, according to a letter received by the Ohinemuri county clerk, Mr L. E. Shaw, from the Public Works Department. The letter, which came before the November meeting of the council, stated that requisitionary authority for a sum of £546 —on a £3 to £1 subsidy .basis —would be issued forthwith so that the work might be put in hand'. The chairman said this was- a highway bridge and therefore received a £3 to £1 subsidy, but it was also a boundary between Ohinemuri and Thames counties. It wag controlled by the Ohinemuri council, but both councils were equally liable for all repairs to the bridge. The Ohinemuri council had. now procured the hardwood stringers necessary for the job and would be able to proceed with it right away. When the job wa's completed it should last for another I's or 20 years. To Cr. F. L. Franklin: The decking is already down there, but when we took it down recently we found the stringers gone, which held up the job. ■Or. G. A. Avery, moving that the letter be received, said it was satisfactory that they now had the money available for this job and that the job, which was urgently necessary, would soon be done. The letter was received and the matter referred to the engineer for action forthwith.
