Sunday School Event Children’s singing will be one of the features at the Paeroa Methodist Sunday School Anniversary on Sunday next, as notified in the Gazette advertising columns. With Mr G. Hicks, of Auckland (“Uncle Bert” of the radio), as the special preacher for the occasion, ’ the event should prove of interest to the congregation. Subscription Raised The question of an increased subscription was raised at the November meeting of the Paeroa Chamber of Commerce. At present, it was pointed out, the subscriptions received barely covered expenses. Mr B. Gwilliam moved and Mr C. Kenny seconded that the subscription be raised to 15s per annum, the increase to take effect from the beginning of the next financial year. South Auckland Association At the November meeting of the Paeroa Chamber of Commerce it-was agreed that the chamber support the re-establishment of the South Auckland Association and join up if the South Auckland Association is revived. Holiday Late Night It was decided to recommend that late shopping nights be observed as follows: —(Friday, December 21, Monday December 24 and Monday, December 31. Chamber of Commerce Meets .
The November meeting of the 'Paeroa Chamber of Commerce was held in the Victoria Clubrooms, the president, Mr N. C. Davies, presiding over Messrs L. Bogue, W. H. Cheale, J. Turnbull, W. Tubman, C. Kenny, L. Clark, B. Aitken, E. Kahn, W. Dean, W. E. Ward, C. N. O’Neill, W. Pirie, Missi Quinn, 'Mrs John Craig, C. C. Webb, B. Gwilliam, the secretary, J. H. Bartlett. Apologies were received from Messrs R. 'L. Darley, W. E. Westlake and T. W. Pye. New Year Carnival
Mr W. Pirie, organiser of the New Year carnival in. Paeroa, reported to the November meeting of the Paeroa Chamber of Commerce that arrangements were well under way and support was 'being received' from al! quarters. In the event of wet weather alternative arrangements had! been made and! part of the' programme would be presented' in the theatre. Full details would be drawn up and advertised at a later date.
Captain Hubbard Memorial Mr R. G. Mclntosh’s group of pedigree 'Friesian cattle was the winner of the Captain Hubbard Memorial Cup at the Hauraki Agricultural and Pastoral Association’s show at Paeroa on Saturday with Mr W. C. Chynoweth’s group second.
