FOURTH BIRTHDAY
HUIRAU ROAD DIVISION MRS REG. BAKER ENTERTAINS On a recent afternoon, at the home of Mrs Reg. Baker, the fourth birthday anniversary of the Huirau road branch of the W.D.F.U. was celebrated. After the business was transacted Mrs T.jLowe, in a fluent manner, gave a report of the recent Thames Valley Provincial meeting in Thames, which she attended. Mrs Lowe presented Mrs G. Scott, the president, with a dainty posy and thanked her for her .past efforts. Each member was the happy recipient of a pretty floral spray. Two competitions for the afternoon
resulted in beautifully and daintilymade coat-hangers and artistically designed shopping bags, the latter being made from a sugar sack. The two winners, Mesdames W. Troughton and T. Lowe respectively, were heartily congratulated on their artistic efforts. Mrs A. Green at the sales table did brisk business, selling the coat-hang-ers and shopping bags and various other articles. Mrs Scott announced that the proceeds of the day, amounting to the sum of £3 10s would be handed over to the funds of the Merchant Seamen. Mrs Reg. Baker and helpers served a birthday afternoon tea. The candles on the cake, which, as usual was made 'by Mrs Lowe, were lit by Mrs J. Thrupp and blown out by Mrs Troughton while all joined in the singing of the birthday song.
