WOMEN’S DIVISION

COROMANDEL BRANCH MEETS CAKES SENT TO SERVICEMEN The monthly meeting of the Coromandel branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union was held in St. George’s Hall supper room, Coromandel, on Saturday, August 25, Mrs Mannion presiding over a good attend'ance of members. The meeting opened with the creed.

The treasurer reported on the financial position of the branch which proved satisfactory. Mrs Anderson reported that cakes had been forwarded to all the boys still overseas. She pointed out that possibly some of the boys would be home before the parcels reached them as the peace had come since the parcels were posted. A vote of thanks was passed to Mrs Anderson and the staff of the Farmers’ Trading Company for their asistance in the packing and despatching of the cakes. An appeal for help was received from the Leper Man. It was resolved to send a donation of £1 Is foi” the lepers.

The secretary, Mrs R. McNeil, read a comprehensive and interesting report of the Thames Valley Provincial meeting.

A vote of thanks was accorded Mrs McNeil for the able manner in which she presented her report. Discussions and arrangements in connection with the forthcoming flower show in October took place.

A competition was won by Mrs J. Eccleston, who gave the prize back to be sold, the amount totalling over £1 as a result. •

A hearty welcome was accorded to Mrs J. Hawkeswood, who had not been able to attend for some time owing to lack of transport.

The meeting closed with the National Anthem after which afternoon tea was served'.
