NEW BOWLING GREEN
(To the Editor.) Sir, —I read l with astonishment your account of the reception given by the borough council to the deputations representing the various' sports - and youth organisations and of the remarks of certain councillors in reference to the petition presented. The petition opposed the granting of permission to the bowling club to enclose yet another portion of the public domain and' add it to the area they already reserve for their own recreation. To do this, they would require to uproot some of the lovely trees planted by the pioneers of this own. This I consider would' be an act of selfish vandalism. I strongly support the petitioners and consider, the bowlers, being men of standing in our town, should stand on their own feet and not encroach on the all-too-little playing space at the disposal of our young people. In conclusion I suggest the bowlers show a more self-reliant and selfsupporting spirit, and follow the good' example set them by the golfers and the tennis players. I wish to thank Gr. Webb, who, I am told, is himself a bowler, for the lone but valiant fight he put up in the interests of our young people.—l am, etc., C. E. JAMES. Paeroa, 17:9:45.
