basketball matches \ GAMES PLAYED 'WITH THAMES Playing visiting teams from Thames the Paeroa basketball teams won three games by good’ margins, the main game of the day being drawn. Results were:—lPaeroa C 23, beat Thames C 13; Paeroa A 16 drew with Thames A 16; Paeroa B 19, beat Thames B 12; Paeroa Reserves 19, beat Thames Reserves 11.

Paeroa C team outplayed their opponents in the first half to lead by 13 goals to 5. Thames made up most of the leeway shortly after half-time by very fast play but the local teani was again on top at the end of the game.

The big match was a very hardfought game between evenly-matched teams and the final score was an. excellent indication of the play. At half-time the score was seven all, but Paeroa goalers were not on their best form and had missed a large number of shots at goal. The Thames goalers were not combining’ as well as usual but their goal-throwing was more accurate than that of the local girls. Excitement was at its height towards the end of the game with only one goal separating the two teams, first one and' then the other having the advantage. The first half of the game between ■the 'B teams was very even, the score ■being nine to eight in favour of Thames. In the second half Paeroa scored two quick goals and from then on had no difficulty in keeping well in front of their opponents. The Paeroa reserve team defeated the Thames reserves comfortably in the final game, which was fast and open with accurate goal-throwing by both sides.

The games were controlled by Messrs Hays (Thames)' and' D. Jenkin (Paeroa). Paeroa teams which were selected and trained by Miss M. Taylor and Mr D. Jenkin, were:— A team. —iD.
