GORSE SEED WEEVIL
CASE IN THE TWO FLOWERINGS CAIWTHRON INSTITUTE REPLY The Thames District Council of Primary Production recently inquired from the Cawthron Institute whether the gorse seed weevil, introduced locally to keep down gorse, was effective for both flowerings common in this district. "If the insect has ( done well the first season, it will be continuing to do so,” said the reply received from the Institue by the council last week. “Its major attack, however, is on the seeds from the winter flowering of August, and it seldom attacks seeds from the summer blossoms, though there are indications that the insect is developing this habit.”
