SPRING BLOOMS

FLOWERS IN PROFUSION SHOW HELD IN PAEROA VERY SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION Spring blooms in profusion were displayed at the inaugural spring show of the Paeroa Horticultural Society, held in the Parish Hall, Paeroa, on Monday. Although the inclement weather of recent weeks had not improved many of the gardens in Paeroa and the surrounding districts, the standard of the blooms on exhibition was decidedly high and was accorded considerable praise from the large number of the general public who attended. The show was the first public exhibition staged by the Paeroa Horticultural Society and the committee, headed by the president, Mr J. L. Brown, ably assisted by the secretary, Mrs H. V. Peart, and the assistant show secretary, Mr H. P. Wylde, had worked energetically to make the fixture the outstanding success that it was. Although only in its infancy the society has already made its mark in the community and flower lovers will look forward with pleasure to its ■future activities. The show was officially opened by His Worship the Mayor, Mr Edwin Edwards who extended a welcome to the large number of people present to this, the inaugural show of the society. He apologised for the absence of the president, !Mr J. L. Brown, who had only been discharged from the Thames Hospital a day or so. Continuing, the Mayor said it gave •>;,him "great pleasure to see the Paeroa t Horticultural Society achieving 'the - success it so deservedly warranted and expressed congratulations l to the oenthusiasts who had been responsible for its formation. The display of flowers had possibly been affected by the inclement weather but nevertheless the blooms exhibited gave evidence of the wonderful standard of the gardens in and about Paeroa. Attractive gardens assisted greatly in beautifying the town and this was orie of the aims and objects ■of the society. The Mayor extended his sincerest -congratulations to all who had exhibited at the show and expressed thanks to the judges for the interest they had taken and to the secretary and -other officers of the Morrinsville Horticultural Society for the assistance ■•and support they had given. Judges for the show were:—Narcissi and vegetables, Mr G. H. Yarrall, Morrinsville; cut flowers and decorative, Mrs G. H. Yarrall, Morrinsville; -cooking, Mr F. A. B. Cameron, Paeroa.
