WORK OF VANDALS
BROKEN GLASS ON BEACH
DANGER TO HOLIDAY-MAKERS
The work of vandals in smashing dozens of beer bottles on the north end of Cook’s beach was adversely commented upon by visitors to Mercury Bay this year.
The whole section of the beach was thickly covered with pieces of broken glass and it was dangerous to walk along the beach without shoes. It was a particular menace to children,” said one visitor.
Some of the glass, including the base of bottles with sharp jagged pieces sticking up were partly buried in the sand and if any bare-footed person had stood on these they would have practically cut their foot off,” said the visitor.
“As this is a favourite spot for picnickers it is to be hoped that the authorities will take the matter up, prosecute those responsible and so prevent a recurrence of the trouble.
