FARM LABOUR

DIFFICULT TO OBTAIN URGENCY OF CASES ® “I have again had very great difficulty in trying to find suitable labour for four very urgent cases on farms, and have been in touch with the Manpower officer constantly throughout the month on this matter,” said the secretary, Mr J. E. Green, in his report to the Thames District Primary Production Council last week. “It has been possible to place some labour, but there are still three very urgent cases to be dealt with.

“I visited Paeroa on three occasions during the month to interview the Armed Forces Appeal Board on appeals and temporary releases and the Manpower officer with regard to lab-

our problems. As always, I icceived the utmost co-operation from both these departments on all matters I have brought before them. “I have given many interviews during the month on various matters, and have dealt with and received a large number of telephone calls.”

Four applications for land gi’ls had been received and recommended. Twenty-two applications had been received for permits to purchase agricultural implements, largely tractors and hay balers, and these had been inquired into and reported upon and forwarded to Wellington. Three applications for recommendations to purchase timber had been received and recommended. One application for a permit for wire rope had been received and dealt with. The restrictions on the supply of wire rope had now been lifted, and it was no longer necessary to apply for permits for this. o

Present were Messrs S. E. Hall (chairman), W. Buchanan, W. Hamilton, H. S. Curtis, C. W. Schultz, W. H. Cheale, D. Courtney and the secretary.
