EVENING IN PAEROA

SERVICEMEN ENTERTAINED

MAORIS ORGANISE FUNCTION

An impromptu evening in honour of a number of men from the Maoi’i Battalion who were spending the night in Paeroa was held at the Paiohauraki Meeting House on Tuesday evening. Other members of the N.Z.E.F. recently returned; from the Middle East were also present.

, The evening was spent in dancing to music supplied by Mr C. Vickerstaff while community singing was also much enjoyed.

Action songs by local Maori girls and by members recently returned from overseas were interspersed, between dances and were much appreciated.

A warm welcome to the guests of honour was extended by Messrs P. Koroneho, A. Royal and S. Tukukino. Capt. W. AnUru replied on behalf of the Maori servicemen and; a visiting officer and Mr Vickerstaff expressed the thanks of the Pakeha visitors for the enjoyable evening.
