SPREADING RAPIDLY
MEXICAN DEVIL ON PENINSULA SHOULD .BE STOPPED NOW Stating that a weed called Mexican Devil was spreading rapidly on the Coromandel Peninsula, Mr W. Hamilton (Whenuakite), at the November meeting of the Thames District Council of Primary Production asked that all possible information be obtained regarding this pest. The weed was getting a considerable hold, he said and should be checked before it was too late.
As he came to the meeting that day over the Tapu Hill he had seen chains and chains of the side of the road overgrown with the weed. In the past the surfacemen had kept the weed cut and so prevented it from flowering but to-day the whole of it was a mass of flower.
The secretary was instructed to secure all possible information regarding the weed and to enquire whether it was as bad as it was reported. Measures necessary for its eradication are also to be enquired into.
