COROMANDEL INSTITUTE MONTHLY MEETING HELD RESULTS OF COMPETITIONS The November meeting of the Coromandel Branch of the Women’s Institute was held' in the Oddfellows’ Hall on Wednesday, November 1, when Mrs Anderson presided over a fair attendance of members. An apology for absence was received from the president, Mrs D. Strongman who was ill in bed.

The Federation president’s monthly letter was read and discussed.

The sick visitors’ reports were received and Mesdames (Patterson, McKenzie and Gilliver were appointed sick visitors for this month.

A report* was read giving details of work done by institutes, war work .such as knitting and parcels, visiting the sick in hospitals, sending gifts to the leper settlement and various other activities which back up so splendidly the institute motion “We Serve.”

The remits for the November council „were discussed in brief and it was resolved to give the delegate a free hand to vote on all questions as she saw fit.

Arrangements were discussed in connection with the vanity fair to be held later in the month in aid of patriotic funds. It was resolved to com-

mence the fair at 11 a.m. instead' of in the afternoon as had been decided on, the mock court to be adjourned

and resumed again aftei* the lunch recess.

Children’s Party

The children’s fancy dress ball to be held in December in aid of the Blind Institute was also discussed and it was left to the committee to arrange details. It was decided to hold the annual children’s party on the afternoon of the next meeting, the adult party to be held in the evening when friends will be welcomed.

Dr. Logan •entertained the members iby singing the institute song they sang in England, “Jerusalem,” by Blake.

A dainty supper was served by Mesdames McKenzie and Gilliver. , The National Anthem brought the evening to a close. Results of competitions were as follows:—

Marmalade.—Mrs Patterson 1, Mrs 'Gilliver 2, Mrs Reddy 3. Stock.—Mrs McKenzie, only entry. Scrap book.—Miss Russell and Mrs McKenzie, dead heat, 1; Mrs Gilliver 2.

Antirrhinums.—Mrs McKenzie 1, Miss Inglis 2, Mrs Turner 3. Custard tarts.—Mrs Inglis 1, Mrs Gilliver 2.
