LOVELY DISPLAY

SPRING FLOWER SHOW

WAITAKARURU FUNCTION

METHODIST LADIES’ GUILD

The annual spring flower show, arranged. by the Hauraki Plains Methodist Ladies’ Guild was held in the Waitakaruru Hall on Thursday, November 2, being an. outstanding success. It is expected that the profits will amount to over £25. The usual somewhat sombre hall was transformed into a picture of beauty, with the lovely display of spring flowers, and the decorative entries.

The Rev. Cramond of Ngatea officially opened the show and thanked all those who had entered, and also the helpers, stall holders, judges and stewards. The number of entries was not quite so high as in past years in the adult classes but the quality of the exhibits was of a very high standard.

The children’s section was particularly worthy of notice, as not only had the children taken great pains with their entries in the flower section, but the display of school work won the admiration, not only of the judges, but all present. The judges expressed fheii’ gratitude to the teachers in the help they had given, by numbering the work so clearly so as to be of such assistance to them. It was noticeable that the stalls were a popular addition to the afternoon’s ’ enjoyment, as they were well patronised and quickly sold out. There was plain and fancy work, produce, sweets and ice cream. Afternoon tea was also served.

The organising had been done by Mrs jD. Shilton, president of the guild with the assistance of Mrs Thomas, secretary, Miss Baker, treasurer, and other members of the guild. The efforts of these ladies was rewarded by the success of the afternoon’s function.

Mesdames J. Motion and Sherlock acted as the judges for the floral entries and Mesdames C. Hinton and A. Otter for the cooking. Those in charge of the stalls were:—Plain and fancy: work, Mesdames A. Baker and E. Cocks; cakes, 'Mesdames Strong and Shilton; produce and sweets, Mesdames McNaughton, Bryan and Lee; ice cream Mrs O’Brien; afternoon tea, Mesdames D. Parker, Cramond, Misses M.
