MUST BE LOYAL

MEMBERS OF EXECUTIVE FARMERS’ UNION REMIT QUESTION OF FUTURE POLICY That no member 1 can hold an executive position unless he is loyal to the majority decision of the Auckland Provincial Executive until such time as such decision has been reversed by the Dominion Executive, was a remit from the Matatoki branch discussed at Tuesday’s meeting in Paeroa of the Northern Thames Sub-Provincial Executive of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union.

An explanatory note with the remit stated that the term executive position to include the office of president, vice-president, secretary and all other delegates' to sub-provincial and provincial meetings. It was the opinion of the Matatoki branch that unless this .policy was strictly enforced all efforts for concerted action must be of no avail.

Mr R. L. Wilson, of Matatoki said that recently the Farmers’ Union had taken up the question of hospital rating but few branches had supported the move. ■ This move had been a protest to the Government but the farming community had not got behind the movement. Such a failure should not occur again. It should be the duty of every executive officer to stand behind the parent branch. The remit was seconded by Mr W. Hayes, of Netherton. Mivß. W. Lowry of Hikutaia said he thought the Farmers’ Union had gone a little too far in its action regarding hospital rating. The country was at war at the time and! that was not the time for such a big step.

Other members spoke in support of the remit emphasising the need for support for any policy framed by the parent 'body. The chairman, Mr S. E. Hall, said the campaign had done a lot of good and some parts of New Zealand had taken a firm stand. In future the campaign would be launched a lot earlier and no doubt more could be achieved then.

It was agreed to support the remit.
