SCHOOL AFFAIRS
COMMITTEE MEETING FILM STRIPS TO HAND PLAYING AREA AT HIGH SCHOOL The monthly meeting of the Pae--I’oa District High School Committee was held in the schoolroom on Monday, May 8, the chairman, Mr C. C. Webb, presiding over Messrs 1 J. Walmsley, S. Wheeler, T. I. Jenkins, B. Roberts and A. O. H. Alllison. Leave of absence was granted to Messrs H. Follas, 'S. Oliver and F. Thorp. The headmaster, Mr A. E. Day was in attendance. The chairman reported that the contractors had made a start with new buildings at the High School and good progress had been made. The playing area at the High School had been levelled with the county grader and is now ready for sowing in permanent pasture. A working bee had ibeen called for the previous 'Saturday to erect the miniature, rifle range hut owing to the bad weather not much could be done. It was decided to hold another day after school resumed. Advice was received from the board that Miss McKenney had been appointed as infant mistress in place of Miss Murray and would commence duties on May 23. The treasurer reported that he had secured a truck of coal and six bags of coke for firing at the two schools. This would be sufficient to meet all requirements until next year. Accounts totalling £65 0s 6d were passed for payment. The cinematograph fund now stands at £202. The headmaster reported that the forty film strips which were ordered had now come to hand, but as yet no advice had been received of the dispatch of the film strip machine.
