SERVICE IN AUSTRALIA
YORKSHIRE GIRL THE FIRST
The first of the British evacuee children to join the Australian Women’s Army Service enlisted at the Army Women’s Recruiting Depot, Victoria Street, Melbourne, recently. She is Private Vera Field, an attractive, fresh-cheeked Yorkshire girl, who came out with the first group of evacuee children from England in 1940.
