APPOINTMENTS BY BISHOP

ARCHDEACON W. WEAPON

VICAR OF ST. PAUL’S, PAEROA

The appointment of Canon W. G. H. Weadon, of Paeroa, to Archdeacon of Waikato, was announced last week by the Bishop of Waikato, the Rt. Rev. C. A. Cherrington. This office was held by the late Ven. Archdeacon H. R. B. Gillespie,, of Morrinsville, who died last month.

Born in Plymton near Plymouth in Devonshire, Ven. Archdeacon Weadon was educated at a Church of England School in Suffolk, the Society Promoting Christian Knowledge College, London, King’s College, London and St. Paul’s Theological College, Lincolnshire. He served in the Great War as a private for practically four years with the Royal Army Medical Corps, being on the staff of G.H.Q., in Egypt.

The Ven. Archdeacon Weadon was ordained at Lincoln Cathedral and shortly after sailed for New Zealand where he received the appointment as curate at Wairoa, Hawke’s Bay. After two years at Wairoa he was appointed senior curate at Rotorua and then two years later, in 1927, vicar of St. Paul’s, Paeroa. In 1937 he was appointed canon at St. Peter’s Cathedral,
