RUSH OF CHILDREN

STAMPS FOR LIBERTY BOMB POPULARITY IN PAEROA A prominent “exhibit” in the Liberty Loan “Bond Waggon” which visited Paeroa on Friday afternoon was a real 5001 b. bomb, which a speaker, indicated could be decorated with 6d Liberty Loan stamps issued by the Government—a suitable medium, he suggested, for the contributions of children to the new war loan and a help to sending the bomb as a “present” to Hitler or Mussolini. At the close of the performance by the visiting concert party there was a rush of children to the back of the waggon—some of them “tiny toddlers” who had to be lifted into the vehicle by accompanying parents or guardians. The bairns had been previously warned not to rush the stampsticking business, in case of accident to the bomb and the crowd. The value of the National Saving Stamps sold was approximately £4.
