LODGE FAREWELL

PRESENTATION MADE GPL. N. A. TURNER HONOURED - A farewell social evening was held, in the - Lodge Room, Coromandel, on Monday, April 5, when the members of Hauraki Lodge and friends met to bid farewell and Godspeed to Corporal N. A. Turner. The eveningtook the form of dancing and games and a community sing round the piano.

In the course of the evening Miss Jean McLellan delighted those present by singing two of her popular songs, and Bro V. Powley also rendered two violin solos which were very much enjoyed. During the happy time spent round the table the N;G., Bro. V. Powley, took the opportunity of wishing Bro. Turner good luck and a speedy return. He mentioned in the course of his remarks that it was easy for us to wish the boys good luck and give them a sepd-off, the hard part was theirs in the sacrifices they were making in giving up their all in order to go and do their part so that we who are left may retain our freedom/ He took pleasure in handing Bro. Turner on behalf of the members, a shaving brush and steel mirror which he hoped would serve to remind him of his happy associations with the lodge.

“For He’s a Jolly Good Fellow” was heartily sung. Bi’o. Turner suitably replied.

Sister Lucas handed Bro. Turner a diary in which all those present signed their names. Bro Turner expressed appreciation of the gift and said he would start writing it up, and he hoped it would not be long' before he was able to read some of it out in the Lodge room again.

A second supper took place about midnight, after which the evening was brought to a close with the singing of Auld Lang Syne.
