SCHOOL OF MINES MEET READING ROOM IN PAEROA LECTURE SERIES ARRANGED (From the Ohinemuri .Gazette of February 19, 1903) A man named Williams 'was fined Is and 28s costs at Waihi for keeping two dogs tied up and left without food or water. A man —whose name we do not know—ought to be treated in a like manner for tying up a horse in the paddock near the “Gazette” office for three days without food or water. * The annual meeting of the Karangahake School of Mines was held last week, when it was announced that the results of the year’s work had been highly satisfactory, the number of certificates obtained by pupils attending the school being very large. A meeting of the Paeroa Library Committee was held on Friday evening, Mr Hay presiding. It was decided to subscribe to severa] of the English magazines and to a number of Colonial papers, in order to make the reading room • more attractive than at present. Arrangements were made for opening the reading room six nights a week instead. of three. The secretary was instructed to make arrangements for a course of lectures in connection with the library, and it was decided that admission to the lectures be free. Mr Kenny promised to make inquiries as to the number likely to join a Chess Club, and will report to the next meeting on the matter.
