DO NOT BURY
WARNING TO HOUSEHOLDERS BLACKBERRIES USED FOR JELLY ’-A warning to householders who 'have been gathering blackberries recently for the purpose of jam and jelly making not to throw the seeds into their gardens or nearby vacant sections because all jvill grow, .was given by a Netherton farmer who called at the Gazette Office this morning. ' Many people think that the boiling of the fniit kills the seed but that is not correct and in fact the boiling only improves the germination of the seed, stated the farmer. Relating his own experience with the seed he stated that some years ago his mother had emptied the blackberry seed etc., after making jelly, into the garden andjas a result thousands of the seed grew. These seeds had been boiled twice. “The only way in which the seed can be destroyed is by burning them,” he concluded.
