SETTLERS TO HELP
DRAIN CLEANING PROBLEMS AIDING LABOUR SHORTAGE Following a long discussion upon current labour conditions at Thursday’s meeting of the Thames Valley Drainage Board, it was decided that members be given the authority to let drain cleaning contracts to ratepayers where possible.
The question was brought up by the foreman’s report in which it was stated that several ratepayers had approached him making the suggestion that they undertake the work. It was held by a number of board members that if ratepayers were able to undertake drain-cleaning it would greatly relieve the labour problem.
