VEGETABLE PRICES
“CEILING” NOW FIXED POLICY OF STABILISATION In terms of its policy of stabilising prices to the utmost extent possible, and to avoid the development of erratic conditions in the normal channels of distribution which could eventuate from abnormal demands as a result of war emergency, the Price Tribunal, by 'Price Order, has subjected certain lines of vegetables to the operation of a “ceiling” wholesale and retail price, as follows:— Maximum Retail Prices. •North Island. Elsewhere Pound Pound
It is emphasised by the .. Tribunal that up to the limit imposed, by the prescribed “ceiling” prices there may be variation in ruling prices to such extent as may be infli'enced by supply and demand. The period during which the “ceiling” prices as fixed by the Order will operate will be determined by the development of circumstances as peculiar to the spring marketing of the vegetables in question. In no instance, stated the Tribunal, will it be permissible during the currency of the Price Order for wholesalers or retailers to exceed the prescribed prices, and the full co-operation of all concerned is sought to facilitate the smooth working of the arrangement, and the routine activities of the Tribunal’s inspectorate. „ gs «
