EMERGENCY RATION ISSUED

AUSTRALIAN ARMY SUPPLIES

Tablets, each of which makes a full mug of tea, may shortly be added to the Australian Army emergency ration, supplies of which are about to be issued to units in operational areas. . The ration is to be consumed when no other foods are available, and in emergency can sustain a soldier for two days. The ration is packed in a flat tin and consists of a fruit plug, a meat ration and milk tablets. The fruit plug consists of four ounces of dried apricots, sultanas, currants, roasted peanuts, sugar and cocoa. The meat ration is a six-ounce plug of dehydrated meat and vegetables, which may be eaten as supplied, 'but is better cooked. The proposed addition of tea will be in the form of 35-grain tablets wrapped in grease-proof paper.
