PAEROA TRAFFIC

RESIDENT INSPECTOR APPOINTMENT PROPOSED BOROUGH COUNCIL’S DECISION A proposal to station a resident traffic inspector in Paeroa was approved at the monthly meeting of the Paeroa Borough Council. His Worship the Mayor, Mr Edwin Edwards, reported on the subject as follows: “During the month together with the town clerk, Mr R. S. Nicol, I interviewed Mr Forsyth, of the head office of the Transport Department, Wellington, and Messrs Coddington and Ainsworth, traffic inspectors, of Auckland. The question of a resident traffic inspector stationed in Paeroa was discussed 1 . “Subject to the approval of this' council we agreed to co-operate with the department and the following tentative '• arrangement was agreed upon. “(1) An inspector is to be stationed in 'Paeroa*and to be on duty in the borough for the equivalent to two days weekly. “(2) He is to do all testing for 5 drivers’ licenses. “(3) Control all traffic when required. “(4) To control all heavy traffic and see that heavy traffic licences are taken out at due dates.

“(5) 1 The borough is to pay to the department two-thirds, of, drivers’ license fees collected.

“The agreement to be for a period of twelve months, with the right of terminating by three months’ notice on either side. ,

“Last year the borough received £156 in license fees, but this year it is anticipated that the revenue from this source will' be considerably reduced. Up to date only 259 licenses have been taken out returning £64 14s. It can’be anticipated, that quite a number will yet be taken out. Possibly the amount payable to the department for the inspection and services will! approximate £6o' to £65.”

The action of the Mayor was ap-. proved.
