SETTLING DOWN

WATER SUPPLY ON PLAINS BEST CONDITION YET SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT “It seems as though the East Water Supply Scheme is settling down and it is in the ! best condition it has ever been in,” was the comment at the monthly meeting of the Hauraki Plains County when the Water Supply Supervisor, Mr J. Bradford, was reporting on the month’s activities. The.report read as under: — “During the month only two blowouts were repaired on the East Water Supply,, one on Wharepoa jroad and the other at Orongo.’ This is the least I have repaired for any one month during the . last six months. The high pressure is still on, being fed direct from the head works.

“All scour valves were run off and air-valves tested. Eour service

connections were repaired, the heavy frosts causing the trouble. “At Beaver’s corner, Waitakaniru, the- water pipe line in the West Water Supply was dug up to trace a leak in the main. The Highways Board road patching gang complained of water lying in front of the store. Nothing could be found leaking, so some levels were taken and it was found to jfre tide water coming in along the pipe trench and seeping through the seal in a low place in the road. A catchment pit was put in and a 3-inch drain pipe to take the tiJe "water and drainage off the road. >

“At the golf links on the same supply, two pipes had to be raised, the road contractors’ heavy grader has been working on top of the pipe line which is very shallow .in this spot.

“Two galvanised services were replaced. and a leak on the la-inch main at Fipiroa repaired.

“Meters were read for the period ended June 30. 1942, over both areas.”
