POLICY CRITICISED
TOO MUCH SPENDING MARAMARUA MEETING NEW £70,000 RADIO BUILDING Spirited discussions took place at a meeting of the Maramarua branch of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union in the Maramarua Hall. Many farmers criticised the policy of the Government especially in relation to the farming industry. The following resolutions were carried unanimously :— “ That this meeting of farmers expresses its disapproval of the Government’s decision to spend £70,000 in building a new ZB station in Auckland at the present time. The Government has postponed indefinitely the building of a consolidated high school in the district, and we consider the country could be better served by providing secondary education for country children than by duplicating broadcasting studios in the cities.
“ That this meeting realises that increased production is desirable and necessary at this time, and we therefore urge the Government to make available the necessary finance and also to remove immediately import restrictions on all farm requisites.”
