ARMY NURSING
SISTERS ON CALL THAMES BOARD ADVISED “ The department is picking the eyes out of. the nursing service and leaving the hospitals high and dry,” declared the chairman of the Thames Hospital Board, Mr P. E. Brenan, at yesterday’s board meeting when commenting on a communication from the Health Department which advised that a sister from the Thames Hospital was included in the list of those names upon which a shortnotice call might be made for Army nursing service.
“There’s a war on, remember, Mr chairman,” interposed Mr W. Madgwick.
The department stated its letter had been forwarded to the board at this stage so that should the sister be called up, the least possible inconvenience would be caused.
The acting-secretary, Mr A. L. Neighbour, pointed out the difficulty in securing services of proficient nursing staff at the present time.
