£BOO Spent Oh Drain Clearing “We spent nearly £BOO last year from January 1 to March 31 on drain clearing work alone,” reported the secretary, Mr J. E. Green, at the monthly’ meeting of the Hauraki United Drainage Board.

Hauraki United Drainage Board The monthly meeting of the Hauraki United Drainage Board was held in the Turua Buildings on Thursday, the chairman, Mr P. G. Pearce presiding. Others present were Messrs F. Dalton, C. W. Schultz, R. Baker, the clerk, Mr J. E. Green and the foreman, Mr J. W. Welch.

Chamber Of Commerce

A meeting 'of the Paeroa Chamber of Commerce was held in the 'County Office on Thursday night, the president, Mr D. Leach occupying the chair. Others present were Messrs R. A. Mace, T. Pye, Parsons, W. H. Cheale, R. H. Keesing, G. Moss and the secretary, Mr J. H. Bartlett. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs V. Ackroyd and C. Kenny. Mr G. A. Stewart was elected a member of the Chamber.

Waihi Patriotic Committee A decision, to change the name to the Waihi District Patriotic Committee and to concentrate on raising funds for patriotic purposes was made at a meeting of the Waihi districts centennial committee. Centennial celebrations will not be neglected, however, for a large sports gathering for children is to be held.

Farm Implement Shortage The following remit was carried at a meeting of the South Auckland Dairy Association in Hamilton yesterday: “That this meeting vigorously protests to the (Government against the difficulty and sometimes impossibility of securing essential supplies and appliances to carry on the primary industries, and points out that unless relief is given the result will be a gradual lowering of the standard of production.”
