ROAD TO WAIHI

PREPARING FOR SUMMER

DOUBLE SHIFTS BEING WORKED Now that the summer has arrived our thoughts naturally turn to the beach, and inquiries were made regarding the state of the road to Waihi Beach. Extensive work is being done between Karangahake and Waikino—straightening and eliminating corners, etc. A steam shovel is being utilised and four lorries are working a I'6-hour day. Indications are that this road will be in good order for the holidays.

It may come as a surprise to know that the Waihi beach road as far as the gorge has been extensively improved, and the first coat of bitumen has been applied to a big proportion of it. The gorge itself is very rough and it appears an impossible task to finish this road before Christmas. However, it is certain to be better than last year if work proceeds to schedule.
