PAEROA SCHOOL

MONTHLY ROLL NUMBER TYPEWRITERS PURCHASED APPOINTMENT OF CARETAKER. The Paeroa District High School Committee met on Monday evening. Present: Canon W. G. H. Weadon, chairman; Messrs J. R. Kidd, H. Gallagher, W. Morrison, A. Martin, J. H. Mclntyre, J. H. Walmsley, the secretary, Mr J. H. Bartlett, and the headmaster, Mr A. E. Day.. The purchase of a typewriter for the commercial class was confirmed and arrangements were made to buy another second-hand one. The Auckland Education Board notified the appointment of Mrs E. A. Whitmore as relieving teacher. It was resolved that the school should be closed early on October 4—race day —so that the pupils should be home before traffic commenced. The appointment of Mr A. G. Vince as caretaker was confirmed.

The headmaster’s report stated that the roll numbers were 434 (primary) and 58 (secondary) and the average attendances 416 and 53. The grade of the primary department would for 1938 be decided by the roll number for the four weeks ending October 1, 1937. The number necessary for another assistant would be 441.

Correspondence was received from Mr Jas. Thorn, M.P. for Thames, notifying the decision regarding the new school site.
