Should the waste pipe become clogged, due. to an accumulation of grease inside the pipe fix a cork in the outlet of the drain. Then fill pipe to the sink with a strong, solution of caustic soda and leave for two hours. This will remove all foreign matter adhering to inside of pipe when cork is taken away. Caustic soda both burns and stains, so always use gloves when handling it.

If you discover that you have oversalted a vegetable, cover the dish tightly with a wet cloth, and the excess of salt will disappear. Place a piece of charcoal in the frying pan when frying fish, and the dripping will be free of that fishy taste.

A jelly that has been set in an elaborate mould will turn out whole if the mould has previously been coated with white of egg.
