STRAYING STOCK
HAURAKI PLAINS COUNTY PIPIROA BRIDGE DECISION WORK ON KEREPEEHI DOMAIN. The Hauraki Plains County Council met at Ngatea on Wednesday. Present: Messrs C. W. Parfitt, chairman; J. F. Mayn, A. S. Fisher, J. A. Reid, W. McDuff, F. Pinchess, W. Madgwick, W. E. Hale, T. A. McClean, the clerk, Mr E. A. Mahoney, and the engineer, Mr E. Hazledine-Barber. The balance sheet for 1936-37 was returned from the Audit Department certified correct and was adopted by the council.
Cr. Mayn congratulated the committee on the arrangements made regarding the proposed Pipiroa bridge. The council’s offer of a subsidy of £5333 6s 8d had been accepted by the Main Highways Board.
Mr Parfitt replied that as soon as financial arrangements were completed the Main Highways Board would go ahead with the construction of the bridge.
The committee’s action over the Miranda drainage scheme was also endorsed by the council.
Metalling Wani Road.
The chairman reported that since last meeting he had been in touch with the Lands Drainage Department’s engineer at Kerepeehi regarding Wani road, and had arranged that the road should be metalled for 2i miles at a cost to the council of £2OO out of the total £750.
The special meeting regarding riding representation in connection with the annual election next year was called for September 30.
Referring to the proposed, harrowing in the Kerepeehi Domain Cr. Fisher said that at present it was too wet to undertake any work of that nature.
A letter was received from the Hauraki United Drainage Board asking for co-operation between the county engineer and the board’s foreman in the matter of installation of culverts. On the motion of Cr. Mayn it was agreed that the clerk should write the board assuring it of the council’s cooperation. • Spoil From Drains. Cr. Madgwick also moved that the board should be asked to see that spoil removed from drains should be thrown on the opposite side from the road wherever possible. It was decided that Messrs Ryan Bros, should be given a ramp to provide access to their property on payment of a small subsidy.
After a long discussion the council resolved that in future Mr W. Chapman, noxious weeds inspector, should work in with the ranger, Mr H. Tilbury, for the purpose of keeping straying stock off the roads. Accounts to the amount of £2729 19s were passed for payment.
