CUP PRESENTATION
WAITAKARURU FOOTBALL CLUB PLAINS SENIOR COMPETITION. The dance and presentation of the Dent Cup held by the Waitakaruru Football Club on Tuesday evening was. a great success, attracting about 200 people. Immediately after supper Mi’ J. W. Neate, M.C., introduced Mr H. T. P. Evans, president of the club. Mr Evans welcomed all present on behalf of the Waitakaruru Football Club. It pleased him - greatly, he said, to see so large a number of people on a wet evening. He introduced Mr D. Rogers, deputising for Mr N. Wallace, patron of the Hauraki Plains Rugby Union.
Mr Rogers expressed great pleasure to make the presentation of the cup. He could say definitely that Waitakaruru had deserved its win. Foi’ a number of years he had been of the opinion that there was no more sporting club on the Plains. Waitakaruru had a habit of winning the Dent Cup, but it had always been won in fair combat. Mr Rogers concluded by asking Mr L. Hill, captain of the Waitakaruru team to receive the cup. Mr D. C. Land spoke on behalf of the executive of the union. He read a letter of apology from Mr E. A. Mahoney, president of the union, who also congratulated the club heartily on behalf of the union. Mr Land also extended hearty congratulations to the Waitakaruru team on behalf of the Kerepeehi club. Mr L. Hill in reply referred to the several hard tussles during the season, especially against Kerepeehi, who had been very unlucky not to win the cup. “In the meantime,” said Mr Hill, “what we have we hold.”
