NEW DOOR ACTION
THE LOCKING MECHANISM NO TURNING OF HANDLES. the years have seen considerable change in the design of door furniture, the actual locks themselves have been little modified for many years. Now, however, a new system has been developed which, while not altering the position of the locking mechanism, operates it in a more convenient manner, so that a touch of the finger opens the door when a person is entering and a gentle pull will open it when going out.
This new device is known as the Turner lock action which, it is claimed, renders the old twisting handles definitely out of date. In fact, the round handle has been entirely replaced by a well-designed door handle which actuates the turning mechanism. One of the many advantages are that it is easy to open or close the door while carrying a tray or having the hands full of other articles, for it is seldom that one cannot have the little finger free to open the lock.
The door is first morticed and the lock fitted. A template supplied is then placed in position for holes and screws marked. The lock is then taken out and holes bored for controlling bar and key. The lock is refitted with the longest end of the bar on the outside of the door, the markings on
the control bar corresponding to the thickness of the door. A small coil spring is provided to be inserted in a quarter-inch hole near the handle pivot on'the outside of the door.
