MR SUTHERLAND HONOURED. PAEROA RUGBY UNION GIFT. A presentation to Mr W. B. Sutherland, delegate to the Paeroa Rugby Union’s management committee and secretary for the previous two years, was made by members of the committee on Monday evening. Mr Sutherland, who is also secretary of the Thames Valley union and a Paeroa and valley representative forward, leaves to-morrow to join the sailing vessel Cap Pilar on its world cruise. The function had been hastily arranged, said the chairman, Mr D. G. McMillan, as the members wished to show their appreciation of Mr Sutherland’s services during his three years in Paeroa. His outlook on all sport was fair and he had done all he could for football for the enjoyment he received from the game. “Not The Easiest Life.” Paeroa was short of that type of player, remarked Mr McMillan. He had done all he possibly could to help the game and he had never grouched. The trip would broaden Mr Sutherland’s outlook. He was not taking, the easiest life but the life most people would like to take if they had the chance. A small memento in the shape of a gold-mounted fountain pen was presented to Mr Sutherland on behalf of the management committee. On behalf of the Hikutaia Football Club Mr Geo. Avery also paid a tribute to Mr Sutherland’s qualities. In responding to the toast of his health Mr Sutherland said he was sorry to break his associations with the union. He had done what he could for football while in Paeroa and he hoped to return to the town.
