PAEROA DEFENCE OFFICE DEPARTMENTAL TRANSFERS. Reorganisation of the Paeroa branch of the Defence Department partly consequent upon the Government’s new defence policy has resulted in the transfer of three officers from Paeroa to other districts. Captain V. J. Innes, who has been stationed at Paeroa for the past 12 years, is the chief transfer. Mr Innes, who has been in charge of the Hauraki regimental district, has been transferred to Hamilton as area officer in charge of the Waikato regimental district. His departure, besides his loss to the local defence authorities, will leave a considerable gap in the social activities of the town. He has spent much time and patience in the formation of the Paeroa Orphans Orchestra and has been deeply interested in all the musical organisations of the town. The Paeroa Municipal Band, too, has been the scene of some of his labours when he has had the time to conduct and coach the band. Mr Innes also evinced a keen interest in sport, and was a member of the golf and bowling clubs for a time. Mrs Innes occupied the position of Commissioner for the Girl Guides, and •has given assistance to many social organisations in the town. Two other transfers in the* department are those of Staff SergeantMajor G. Paterson, who is to take charge of the Rotorua sub-area, and Mr G. Perret, who has been transferred to the Auckland office. It is understood that these officers will not be replaced, and that Captain C. Shuttleworth will become area officer.
