SOCIAL NOTES

Miss E. Boden, assistant teacher of the Ngatea District High School, has accepted an appointment in Suva, Fiji, and will take up her duties in the New Year. Miss Alison Henry, of Turua, who was successful in gaining the higher local pianoforte grade, at the recent Trinity College Examinations, is visiting Auckland, where she is one of the soloists at the Orphans’ and Dramatic Club’s recital held at the Lewis Eady Hall this week. Miss Merle McCrea was the guest of honour at a kitchen evening given by Misses R. Allen and E. Turner at the Commercial Hotel last week. Six tables of trump whist were played, the prize-winners being Miss Paterson and Miss L. Thorp. Mrs C. Dalbeth and Mrs G. L. Inwood were hostesses at a gift evening given to Miss M. McCrea in honour of her approaching marriage. Bridge was played, the first prize being won by Mrs W.. Stewart and the hidden number by Miss L. Vincent. Mr and Mrs A. H. M. Farrell, who have been closely associated with the work of the Methodist Church during their residence in Paeroa, and who are leaving shortly to reside in Whangarei, were farewelled by the Methodist community on Monday evening at a social function in the Centenary Hall, and presented with a clock by the Rev. G. R. Harris, who, with Mr N. Harris, spoke in glowing terms of the assistance of the guests. Presentations of books were made to Mr and Mrs Farrell’s three children. A pleasing programme of musical items was presented.
