WARNED BY A CAT.
FARMHOUSE BURNED.
OCCUPANTS’ NARROW ESCAPE.
Awakened by the noise of a cat endeavouring to get out of a window at about 3 a.m. on Friday Idst Mrs W. D. Keys, of Mill Road, Paeroa, discovered that the farmhouse Was burning fiercely. She and her husband and daughter and a farmhand were fortunate in being able to get out uninjured so fierce wa,s the fire. Nothing whatever was saved. There was no sign of* anything amiss when the farmhand arrived home from the pictures at about midnight and the only suggestion which can be offered as to the cause of the fire is the fact that some clothes were hanging in front of an open fireplace to dry. They were looked at prior to Mr and Mrs Keys retiring for the night, but as the fire appeared to be out it was thought that there was no
danger. The building was a comparatively new one of six rooms. Details of insurances are not available.
