A little girl, writing home to her mother in Taihape last week, sent the following letter:— “Dear Mum.—l hate here, it’is like a gail. You’ve got to do this, that, and the other thing like a prizoner. The only good thing is picking strawberries. I’ve got to peel spuds and do dirty dishes while Auntie sits down and watches. Sue has got to make beds, empty pots and put the little monkey Valerie to bed. She squeaks like a monkey, so we call her a monkey. The older Auntie gets
the grumpier she gets. Set the table, scrub the floors, do washing the clothes, and iron.' I’m coming home to-morrow. Meet me.”
