HELP FOR NEEDY.
DRIVE TO BE MADE. CLOTHING AND FOOD. “Their need was great at this time last year so you can imagine what it is now after they have existed for a year on the small relief wages that have been paid,” said the Mayor of Paeroa at the Borough Council meeting, when announcing that a drive was to be made in Paeroa shortly for boots, clothing and food for the needy. He mentioned that last year the response to an appeal had been very gratifying-, but this year the need was ever so much greater, and a systematic drive would be necessary. The Girl Guides had volunteered to undertake this, and the committee, under Mr E. Edwards, which had done such good work last" year in distributing the donations to the best advantage had again offered its services. Mr E. Edwards mentioned that as the result of the appeal last year a great number of parcels were received and the goods had been carefully distributed. He was sure the people would respond to this year’s appeal and that the women’s organisations of the town would assist. The question of a drive had been discussed for the first time that evening, and details had not yet been arranged, but he was sure that when this was done citizens would come forward with offers of assistance as they had done in the past.'
