Further areas totalling almost 100 acres at Maramarua have been set aside for the purpose of a permanent State forest. Enquiries have been received as to the boundary between the Thames and the Waikato; electoral districts at Netherton. This is Wilson’s. Road, so that all Awaiti is in Waikato.
Speaking at Coromandel, Mr A. M. Samuel, Coalition candidate, expressed the opinion that the provision of electric power to such places as Coromandel should come under a general Government scheme.
The Hikutaia candidates who have been prepared will be confirmed by Bishop Cherrington, of the Waikato Diocese, at the Anglican Church on the evening of Tuesday, December 8. The Bishop will make his annual inspection of the church in the afternoon.
A meeting of Paeroa volunteer territorials was held on Monday evening to wind up matters in connection with the recent military ball. It was reported that the net profit from the function was £2O Ids 3d. In older to make arrangements for establishing a gymnasium the following committee was set up: Messrs D. Cameron (chairman), D. B. Currie (secretary), E. Powell, S. J. Hedge, J. M. Fox, A. A. Jenkinson, H. Lloyd, I. Vause, R. Clark. J. Verran and N. Campbell.
The Labour candidate for the Thames electorate, Mr J. S. Montgomerie, in addressing a meeting a Kerepeehi last evening, mentioned - that although he at present resides outside the.district he would, if elected, reside eric, in addressing a meeting at Kereat Thames town. This is in accordance with his party's stipulation taht they must be in the midst of their duties.
A meeting of the Hikutaia Anglican Church Committee was held in the school room on Tuesday evening, Mr A. Robinson presiding. The treasurer. Mr Watts, reported that the work of painting the church and the repair work had been completed to the satisfaction of the committee aopointed to supervise the work. All accounts were then passed for payment. The opening date of the Anglican Sunday School has been held over for the time being, to enable the Vicar to communicate with Mr W. Veddar, with a view to setting out the course of instruction to be adopted. All social effort for the purpose of swelling the church funds have been postponed until after the Christmas vacation.
