MOTOR ACCIDENT.
SERVICE CAR IN DRAIN.
MISHAP AT NETHERTON.
As the. Paeroa-Hauraki Plains service, bus was proceeding on the journey to tiie Plains yesterday afternoon an accident to tiie steering gear caused it to nose-dive into a drain.
In an interview with the driver, Mr L. Shaw, it was learned that after passing the old Paeroa-Neitherton Road corner and on the main AwaitiNethctron road, when about 20 yards below the Netherton School a joint on tiie steering rod became loosened and steering control was lost. Before tiie bus could be brought to a standstill it had left the crown of tiie road and nose dived into the drain on the. righthand side of tiie road. There was only one passenger, a painter proceeding to tiie Kerepeehi Hotel, on the bus in addition to the driver. Mr Shaw escaped injury, but the passenger sustained slight cuts on his forehead. After first-aid had been rendered by Miss B. Adlain at the Netherton School the passenger was able to proceed on his journey. The bus was extricated from its position with the aid of a team of horses. One of the front wheels, the ri'idiator, and mudguards were considerably damaged. A car was sent out to tiie scene from Paeroa, and the mails and papers were transferred, and Mr Sinew arrived at Ngatea. a little behind schedule time.
