WOMEN’S INSTITUTES

HUNTLY. The Women’s Institute met on Wednesday in the Presbyterian Hall, Mrs J. Dodds presiding. Theie was a good attendance and three new members were enrolled. After the roll call of “Riddles,” •vkich caused great fun, the sec-ret-aiy read out the reports, which iealfc with the federation conference held in Auckland recent y, where many suggestions for the Women’s Institutes had been discussed. Mrs T. Hall gave a most interesting demonstration on “Stencilling,” which was much appreciated by all present. The Bring and Buy Stall pioved veiy successful, as also did the competitions arranged by Mis Fleming and Mrs Dodds, which were won by Mrs J. Tail and Mrs J. Cliff. Supper was then served, hostesses for the evening being Mesdames Rmsell and Wilson. TAUPIRI. The usual monthly meeting of the Taupiri Women’s Institute was held on Wednesday, April 8, in the Taupiri Hall, there being between thirty and forty members present. After the dispatch of the ordinary business the ladies spent the afternoon socially, vocal solos being rendered by Mrs. S. A. Clark. A “fish competition” was won by Mrs. Odgers and Mrs. Hunter, Owing to the unavoidable absence of Miss McMullen, of Gordonton. the ladies missed a demonstration of traymaking. Good business was done at the trading table. A quantity of basketwork was on view’, sent from the Blind Institute for orders. The hostesses were Mesdames Braddock, Smith Troup, Williams, and Carbines. TE HOE. An enjoyable afternoon was spent recently by the members and friends of the Te Hoe Women’s Institute, when they met in the grounds of Mrs. D. Thompson’s home. Mrs. P. A. Cuff presided. At the conclusion of the usual business matters, a roll call for the ‘best joke’ caused much amusement. A demonstration of making moccasins was given by Mrs. C. L. Thompson. Mrs. Le Heron gave first of a series of talks on travelling abroad. As the description was accompanied with illustrated booklets, it was both instructive and interesting. Gramophone selections were played throughout afternoon tea, which was served on the lawn.
