WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

IvOITERANGI

The monthly meeting of the Koiterangi Women’s Institute, was held in the Public Hall, on Tuesday evening, July 9th. There was a good attendance of members. The meeting opened with the singing of “Comrades and Friends.”

The minutes of the previous meeting were read uud confirmed; also the monthly balance sheet. A good, deal of correspondence was dealt with. The President, Mrs A. S. Havill, read Miss Kane’s letter from “Home and Country,” and Mrs Jones read an account of “Mrs Pankliurst and Votes for Women.” This is from the talks on “Women Personalities,”' 1 that were mentioned at the last West Coast Council meeting, hold in Hokitika.

The Women’s Institute ambulance fund was discussed and it was decided that a collection of 1/- per member be taken at the next meeting. All members willing to give garments to the Lady Galway Patriotic .Guild for Refugees, are to send them to the secretary, to he forwarded to Dominion Headquarters, Wellington. Owing to petrol restrictions and some of the members having to come long distances, it was decided to hold the next meeting in the Borough Hall. Some of the members walked over three miles to this meeting. The motto for the month was “Never meet trouble half-way,” and the roll call “Favourite Recipe” was well responded to.

Next mouth there is to he a “Bring uid Buy.”

The competition results were: Chocolate cake—Senior: Mrs Dimmick Ist.; junior: Miss M. DeFillipi Ist., Miss S. Havill 2nd., Miss M. Duggan 3rd. Worker apron —senior: Airs H. Jones and Mrs Tinetti. Ist. equal; junior: Miss H. Havill Ist., Miss M. DeFillipi 2nd.

LADY GALWAY PATRIOTIC GUILD

At a meeting of women of Ivoiterangi, held on Tuesday evening, July 9th., it was decided to form a branch of the “Lady Galway Patriotic Guild.” Mrs Eric Smith was elected President and Mrs H. Dimmick, secretary. A committee, with powers to add, was elected. All the women who were not present are to be informed of what took place, and to he asked to help in every’ way’ possible. All goods and work done are to be handed in to the secretary, Airs Dimmick.
